Interim Co-President & Chief Operating Officer / Chief Commercial Officer

Aaron Degodny has served our Company as Chief Commercial Officer since February 2016. He has over 25 years of experience in the transportation and logistics industry, with the majority of his career in the bulk commodities and industrial products sectors. Prior to joining Rand, Aaron was employed with Canadian National (CN) Railway for 20 years, where he served as Director of Sales for Bulk Commodities for the United States and Canada, one of the railroadís largest business segments. At CN, he also held the positions of Director of Sales for Industrial Products and National Account Manager for Grain and Fertilizer. Earlier in his career, he held various positions focused on commodity trading, logistics and transportation at Cargill, Inc. He is a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where he received his Bachelorís Degree in Business Administration with a focus on transportation logistics and economics.

Vice President, Operations

Captain Paul Joaquin has over 20 years of experience in the Great Lakes maritime industry. Paul joined Grand River Navigation Company in 2001 as Captain and since that time has served as Master of M/V Calumet (I &II), M/V Maumee, M/V Manistee, ITB McKee Sons, and ITB Ashtabula. He is a graduate of the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City, Michigan, where he received a degree in Marine Technology. He is a US Coast Guard licensed pilot of all waters west of Cape Vincent and has an extensive understanding of River Class vessels.

Director - Human Resources

Human Resources Manager Michael Taetsch joined Grand River Navigation Co. in the spring of 2013 as Supervisor: Operations, Safety, and Compliance bringing 15 years of experience sailing as a deck officer on the Great Lakes. A 1998 graduate of the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, Mike holds a professional license as Master of vessels not more than 1600 tons Great Lakes, Master of Towing Vessels Great Lakes, Inland Waters and Western Rivers, 3rd Mate Unlimited Near Coastal Waters and First Class Pilot of Unlimited Tonnage Vessels covering all of the Great Lakes and connecting Rivers and has sailed on both commercial and government vessels before moving into vessel management. Mike is currently a member of the Great Lakes Maritime Alumni Association Board of Directors after serving as President for several years and is currently an Adjunct Instructor at Great Lakes Maritime Academy. Mike and his wife Heather have 4 children.
